SPCA Bulawayo
The first Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was organized in England in 1824, primarily to prevent the abuse of carriage horses in the days before automobiles.
Horses were driven through freezing cold winters and stiflingly hot summers, often with little food, water or rest. This has since developed into a wide variety of animal protection programs, anything from rabbits to dogs, cats, pigs, horses, donkeys and so on.
This is a volunteer and charity run organization that requires a strong and active committee to keep up with all fundraising and development.
We have a clinic with skilled vets that is used to treat customers’ pets as well as our very own rescued animals. Customers are sometimes required to pay for their treatment.
The income from the clinic is used to assist with paying staff salaries, such as our 10 kennel hands, cooks, managers, inspectors, administration staff, gardeners and vet clinic staff.
This is a vital area of our programme as it is a set income that we heavily rely on.
We rely on the public reporting mistreated, neglected, abandoned and abused animals and we send out our teams to investigate, confiscate or educate the owners who are responsible for the animals.
