Bulawayo Airport
Originally known as Bulawayo Airport, the facility was established in 1959. It underwent a significant transformation in 2013 with the commissioning of a new, expanded passenger terminal capable of handling 1.5 million passengers annually.
In recognition of his immense contribution to the nation, the airport was renamed after Dr. Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo in 2001.
Bulawayo Airport Domestic and International Flights
While the Bulawayo airport primarily serves domestic routes within Zimbabwe, it also caters to a number of international destinations. Several airlines operate flights to and from the airport, connecting Bulawayo to major cities in the region and beyond.
It is the third largest airport in Zimbabwe.

Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo: A Giant of Zimbabwean History
The airport is named in honor of Dr. Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, a revered figure in Zimbabwean history. As the founder of the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU), Nkomo played a pivotal role in the country’s liberation struggle.
His unwavering commitment to democracy, equality, and the welfare of his people earned him the respect and admiration of millions. Nkomo served as Zimbabwe’s first Vice President after the formation of the unity government.

Bulawayo Airport Location and Accessibility
Situated approximately 25 kilometers north of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, the Bulawayo airport, Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport, is easily accessible by road.
Leave the city via Robert Mugabe Way from the city centre and follow the road out of the city limits. Turn left into the Airport drive at the well signposted filter.
Several taxi and shuttle services are available for transportation to and from the airport.
